The design is inspired by the Pounamu from Maori cultural stories.

The Cheetahs' Indigenous jerseys were designed by local artists and school teachers Yilka (Wongutha), Noongar and Ms. Roseanne 'Rosie' Paine of Yamatji.

The jerseys represent 'Dandjoo', meaning unity, and are adorned with the word 'Djoodith', which is the western badger name for Nuga.

The artist of the SEM Aboriginal jersey, Katie Bugden, is a Kamilaroi woman from the Bundjalung region.

The jersey depicts Bunjil, the creation god of the Kulin Nation, as well as elements in the background representing the direction of the club.

Designing the Indigenous jersey for the Kings for the third consecutive year is Wiradjuri man Stewart James of the Narrandera Murrumbidgee River People.

Similar to last year's jersey, James used a familiar design, replacing the background color with white, with the artist stating that "promoting the club's colors and highlighting the predominantly white jersey was the focus."

Tasmania's Indigenous jersey was designed by artist Reuben Oates.

"Some of these elements have two different meanings. It represents our strong culture, our willingness and need to educate people about our culture; and from the team's perspective, it represents the boys as a tribe, battling other teams. The nest itself represents the army of ants and the whole concept of defending the island.
