For players who don't follow the lore of the Diablo license closely, it can be difficult to follow the events and understand the connections between Diablo IV characters like Lilith, Inarius and Lorath. Blizzard has therefore revealed a timeline with a few surprises.

Like many works that involve angels and demons, Diablo 4 is tied to mythological events and then conflicts that span generations. As many players are a little lost between the different games, and the period during which they take place, Blizzard has decided to formalize the dates during which each game takes place, including the new opus. The High Heavens and the Burning Hells are formed and the Eternal Conflict begins. Archangel Inarius is captured in the Underworld and meets the demoness Lilith. A sequel 50 years later

The last date is the most surprising, since Diablo 4 takes place in 1336, which is 50 years after the end of Diablo 3 Reaper of Souls. This detail had caused a lot of talk within the community, and among its lore experts, since the interview that Blizzard had given us actually mentioned 50 years, while 30 years were mentioned everywhere else. Since Lorath is a Diablo 3 character, we have to admit that 30 years seemed more believable to us. We must believe that he has aged well, the writers must certainly be prepared to use him to replace the deceased Deckard Cain. He disappears at the end of the prologue in Diablo 4, but he certainly has a role to play in the other acts.
